Simple Past Tense


Kalimat nominal

Kalimat nominal untuk simple past tense adalah sebagai berikut :

Rumus:

Subject + was/were + complement

Example :

  • I was in Bali last week

(Saya di Bali minggu lalu)

  • He was very busy yesterday

(Dia sangat sibuk kemarin)

  • She was here just now

(Dia disini tadi)

  • They were very happy

(Mereka sangat bahagia)

  • We were happy

(Kita bahagia)

NOTE:  I, he, she, it, andi ….was

We, you they ….were

Kalimat verbal

Rumus :

Subject + verb 2

Contoh :

  • John went to Thailand last month.

(John pergi ke Thailand bulan lalu)

  • He visited me yesterday

(Dia mengunjungiku kemarin)

  • She wrote a letter to her mother last week

(Dia menulis surat untuk ibunya minggu lalu)

  • They drunk tea this morning

(Mereka minum teh tadi pagi)

Simple past tense digunakan untuk:

1)      Mengungkapkan suatu kejadian yang terjadi di waktu tertentu dimasa lampau.

  • Andri was here yesterday

(Andri kesini kemarin)

  • He played tennis last Sunday

(Dia bermain tennis hari minggu lalu)

2)      Mengungkapkan suatu kebiasaan atau kejadian yang berulang-ulang dimasa lampau.

  • He always studied hard when he was a student

(Dia selalu belajar keras ketika masih pelajar)

  • In the past, he smoked almost everyday

(Dahulu, dia merokok hampis setiap hari)

  • You always cried everyday when you were a baby

(Kamu selalu menangis saat bayi hampir setiap hari)

Tanda Waktu (time markers) yang biasa dipakai dalam simple past tense adalah sebagai berikut:

  • Yesterday (kemarin)
  • Just now (tadi)
  • Last….: last week (minggu lalu), last month (bulan lalu), last year (tahun lalu),last Monday (senin lalu), last february (febuari lalu).
  • …. ago: three day ago (tiga hari yang lalu), two weeks ago (dua minggu lalu), two years ago ( dua tahun lalu).
